Protecting our Province
The environmental impact of our facilities and operations is of the upmost importance to us. We have designed our facilities to exceed the requirements set by the Department of Environment and Climate Change in our Certificate of Approval.
Our solid-surface processing facility in Foxtrap is designed to prevent any possible spillage that may occur during the metal recycling process. A concrete pad of 32374 sq/m at 25.4 cm thick was laid, and all materials are drained, crushed, and stored here. The draining and crushing operations are located at the highest elevation of the pad which provides time for any possible leaks or spills to be properly contained. In addition, the yard has a 10,000L double-walled waste oil storage tank, and all rain and water goes through a three-step interceptor system to ensure all water coming off the property is clean.
By investing in a state-of-the-art metal shredder in 2019, we have reduced our greenhouse gas emissions and are supporting our economy by having all of our metal processing performed here in the province. Over 1,400 tractor trailer loads and two freight-liners of crushed metal per year are now crushed, shredded, separated, and shipped around the world right from our own Port of Argentia.
